Your host

Elena, with you all week

Elena has made Spain her home, and Catalonia is the part of it she returns to most. She hosts every day of this week herself, with the ease of someone who knows which table to book, which hour to walk, and which streets the guidebooks never reach.

Founder of Globara. Speaks IT / EN / ES / FR.

Is this week for you

  • The pace is relaxed, with time to pause. Most days involve leisurely walking on old streets, uneven paving and a few gentle stairs.
  • Ten guests at most. Couples, friends and solo travellers all come, and the table is shared.
  • For anyone who appreciates culture, exceptional food and wine, and genuine local encounters.

The days

    Monday 16 November

    Day 1Bienvenidos to Barcelona

Barcelona wears its centuries lightly — Roman walls, medieval lanes and modernista façades on the same short walk. After settling into the hotel we take our first walk through the Gothic Quarter, past the cathedral and into the quiet squares locals keep for themselves. In the evening we gather for our welcome dinner: Catalan cooking, wines from the hills an hour inland, and the first conversation of a week spent together.

Signature momentOur first vermut, in a bar that has poured it for a century.

Day 2Gaudí, at the Right Hour

We give the morning to Antoni Gaudí and the architects around him — Casa Batlló and the Eixample's modernista grid, seen early, before the crowds arrive. The story is not only the buildings but the city that wanted them: industrial, ambitious, sure of itself. The afternoon is yours for lunch and a wander. In the evening we take the table at a restaurant that has quietly kept its reputation for decades.

Day 3The Market and the Table

We begin where the city's cooks begin — the market, at the hour it is worked rather than photographed. Fish landed the night before, mushrooms from the Pyrenees, the last of the season's tomatoes. We meet the people behind the counters, then take what we have chosen to a kitchen and cook it, hands in, with a chef who grew up on this food. Lunch is what we made. The afternoon is free, and the evening is given to tapas the way Barcelona actually eats them: standing, slowly, in three different places.

Signature momentA market basket, a shared kitchen, and lunch we cooked ourselves.

    Day 4Cava and the Penedès

We drive an hour inland into the Penedès, where Catalonia has made wine since the Romans and cava since 1872. At a family cellar we go down into the tunnels where the bottles rest, and learn why the second fermentation changed the region's fortunes. A long lunch follows among the vines — local, seasonal, unhurried. We return to the city in the late afternoon, and the evening is left beautifully unplanned.

Signature momentDown in the cava tunnels, a glass drawn from the family's own reserve.

Day 5Girona and the Medieval North

North to Girona, where the coloured houses stand in the Onyar and the old town rises behind them. We walk the medieval walls, the cathedral steps and the Call — one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Europe. Lunch is in a courtyard restaurant the city keeps for itself. In the late afternoon there is time for the artisan shops and pastry counters Girona is quietly known for, before we return to Barcelona.

    Day 6The Costa Brava

Our last full day belongs to the coast. We follow the road north to a village on the Costa Brava — white houses stacked above a bay, fishing boats drawn up, pine on the headland. We walk a stretch of the camí de ronda, the coastal path that links one cove to the next, and take a long seafood lunch by the water. We close the week back in the city with a farewell dinner — the friendships, the flavours, the week behind us.

Signature momentThe coastal path between two coves, and lunch where the boats come in.

Good to know

Where does the journey begin and end?

Your journey begins and ends in Barcelona. The nearest airport is Barcelona–El Prat (BCN). We recommend arriving a day early to settle in and enjoy your first evening in the city. After booking you will receive a pre-departure guide with arrival information, recommended flights, transfer options and practical notes. If you have any question before then, we are at your disposal.

Do I need a visa, and what documents should I carry?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Please make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates, and check the current entry requirements for Spain with the Spanish Embassy or Consulate before you depart.

I would be travelling on my own — will that feel comfortable?

Solo travellers are warmly welcomed, and most of our guests come alone. A limited number of private rooms is available for a single supplement, subject to availability — simply let us know when you book.

How large is the group?

Ten guests, maximum. Our travellers come from different countries and backgrounds but share the same curiosity and love of authentic travel. Whether you come solo, as a couple or with friends, you will feel part of the group from the first evening.

Who will be hosting the journey?

Every Group Trip is accompanied by a dedicated Globara host who stays with you throughout. Along the way you will meet the winemakers, chefs, artisans and guides who share the stories and hidden places that make Catalonia what it is.

What is the weather like in November?

Catalonia in November is mild and clear more often than not — comfortable for walking, with cool evenings. Expect daytime temperatures in the mid to high teens in Celsius, and pack a light coat and comfortable shoes for old streets and the coastal path.

How does payment work?

A 30% deposit confirms your place. For departures booked more than six months ahead, 50% of the total is due six months before departure and the balance five months before departure. This November departure is inside that window, so a shorter schedule applies — see the payment schedule above. You will receive secure payment links and a friendly reminder before each instalment.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive cover for trip cancellation or interruption, medical expenses, emergency assistance, lost or delayed luggage and personal belongings. Insurance gives you peace of mind should anything unexpected arise before or during your journey.

Is this journey right for me?

Group Trips are designed for curious travellers who appreciate culture, exceptional food and wine, and genuine local encounters. Most days involve leisurely walking through old towns, markets and coastal paths, sometimes on uneven paving or gentle stairs. A good level of mobility is recommended, though the pace is relaxed and there is always time to pause. If you have questions about accessibility or specific requirements, contact us before booking — we will always be honest about whether the journey is the right fit for you.

Shall we save you a seat?

A 30% deposit confirms your place. We will answer any question before you commit.
